While many Americans across the country begin to work from home in light of the Coronavirus, they also begin to rely even more heavily upon the most vulnerable working group right now, truck drivers. Traveling across the country and coming in contact with various people means that truckers need to take extra precautions to protect themselves and their communities along the way. To ensure the safety of all members at US Transport and those we come in contact with, we are taking all the necessary precautions and ask that you take the necessary steps to stay safe as well.

Although there is no vaccine for this virus, preventing exposure is the best way to keep yourself healthy. Here is a list of steps you can take to prevent illness and protect others:

  • Wash your hands often.

Washing your hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds after stopping for food or sneezing and coughing will help to prevent sickness from spreading. If you do not have access to soap and water, hand sanitizer should be used instead.

  • Avoid public spaces.

Instead of buying food on the go or stopping by the convenience store, try packing your food beforehand. That way you know the food is safe to eat and has not been touched by anyone who may be ill.

  • Clean and disinfect areas around you.

Using a regular household cleaning spray on door handles and in your cabin can go a long way to keep your health in check. Don’t forget to clean your phone regularly, too.

  • Take precautions if you are sick.

The safest thing you can do if you are sick is to stay home. However, if this is not an option, wearing a face mask, gloves, and covering your coughs or sneezes is the best way to keep sickness from spreading.

While truckers are essential to delivering goods and supplies across the US, their health and safety is our number one priority. Take today’s circumstances seriously, do all that you can to prevent exposure and be well.
